Resolution of Encouragement in Gospel Purity
Whereas the gospel is clearly defined in the
Scriptures:
1 Corinthians 15:1-4
15:1 Now I make
known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you
received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold
fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 3 For I
delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died
for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He
was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, NASB
Whereas the faith in the gospel is the power of God
unto salvation in attaining the first resurrection:
Romans 1:16
16 For I am not
ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who
believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. NASB
Ephesians 1:13-14
13 In Him, you
also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation —
having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14
who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of
God's own possession, to the praise of His glory. NASB
Whereas our fellowship together as believers is in
this gospel:
Philippians 1:3-5
3 I thank my
God in all my remembrance of you, 4 always offering prayer with joy in my every
prayer for you all, 5 in view of your participation in the gospel from the first
day until now. NASB
1 Thessalonians 3:1-3
2 and we sent Timothy, our brother and God's fellow worker in the gospel of
Christ, to strengthen and encourage you as to your faith, NASB
Whereas God demands an account of believers whom He
has entrusted with this gospel:
1 Thessalonians 2:4
4 but just as
we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not
as pleasing men but God, who examines our hearts. NASB
Whereas Christ's true called ministers
accurately proclaim the gospel:
Acts 20:24
24 "But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, in order
that I may finish my course, and the ministry which I received from the Lord
Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God. NASB
Romans 1:1
1:1 Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for
the gospel of God, NASB
1 Corinthians 9:16-17
16 For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for I am under
compulsion; for woe is me if I do not preach the gospel . NASB
1 Corinthians 9:23
23 And I do all things for the sake of the gospel , that I may become a fellow
partaker of it. NASB
Galatians
1:6-10
6 I am amazed
that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for
a different gospel; 7 which is really not another; only there are some who are
disturbing you, and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even though we,
or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we
have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so I say
again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to that which you
received, let him be accursed. 10 For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of
God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I
would not be a bond-servant of Christ. NASB
Whereas baptism or immersion in water
symbolizes faith in the
work of Christ in the gospel:
Romans 6:3-4
3 Or do you not
know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized
into His death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into
death, in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the
Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. NASB
1 Corinthians 1:17-18
17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel , not in
cleverness of speech, that the cross of Christ should not be made void. 18 For
the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who
are being saved it is the power of God. NASB
Whereas the Lord's Table of unleavened
bread and fruit of the vine symbolizes the gospel:
1 Corinthians 11:23-32
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the
Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had
given thanks, He broke it, and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this
in remembrance of Me ." 25 In the same way He took the cup also, after supper,
saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you
drink it, in remembrance of Me ." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and
drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes. 27 Therefore
whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner,
shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine
himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who
eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself, if he does not judge the
body rightly. 30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number
sleep. 31 But if we judged ourselves rightly, we should not be judged. 32 But
when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord in order that we may not be
condemned along with the world. NASB
Whereas Jesus said ‘many’ would suffer
apart from Himself holding to corrupted gospels:
Matthew 7:21-23
21 "Not
everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he
who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. 22 "Many will say to Me on that
day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out
demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' 23 "And then I will declare to
them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.' NASB
Be it resolved we encourage fellow
believers in Christ to stand firm and defend the pure gospel including gospel
symbols of baptism, Lord's Supper and Church assembly worship and privileges:
Philippians 1:27-30
27 Only conduct
yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ; so that whether I come
and see you or remain absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in
one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; 28 in
no way alarmed by your opponents — which is a sign of destruction for them, but
of salvation for you, and that too, from God. 29 For to you it has been granted
for Christ's sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,
30 experiencing the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
NASB
Galatians 2:14
14 But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the
gospel , I said to Cephas in the presence of all, "If you, being a Jew, live
like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles
to live like Jews? NASB
Jude 3-4
3 Beloved,
while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt
the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith
which was once for all delivered to the saints. 4 For certain persons have crept
in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation,
ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our
only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. NASB
Be it further resolved we rejoice with
those fellow believers who proclaim a pure gospel in message and properly
symbolize that gospel in actions and religions observances:
Philippians 1:7
7 For it is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have
you in my heart, since both in my imprisonment and in the defense and
confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of grace with me.
NASB
Philippians 1:15-19
15 Some, to be
sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good
will; 16 the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the
defense of the gospel; 17 the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition,
rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my imprisonment.
18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is
proclaimed; and in this I rejoice, yes, and I will rejoice. NASB
